Valverde Maclean has travelled widely through many parts of the world and has a particular passion for Australia where he has lived and worked in both the southern and northern regions of the country. This experience shows in the way he writes of an Australia far from the big cities.
As a keen observer of human behavior ,wherever it may occur, history and particularly its ramifications for the social and economic life of a nation and its people form a backdrop to his stories.
His first novel “The Disappearance of Merry” was well received by readers who enjoyed the combination of romance and mystery. This was continued in his second novel “Magenta”. His third book “The Letter” combined the present and the past, of life in the big cities and bush of Australia.
However it is not only yesterday's Australia, but also the present-day changes and challenges to life and culture that are apparent in his writing. Readers of these books have the pleasure of travelling today’s Australia and discovering, or for some rediscovering, an Australia they had heard of, or remembered.
His fourth book “Murder on the Motu” marks a change, with a mysterious death in French Polynesia. However, like his previous stories, it is more than just a detective story as it investigates the personalities of those involved and the beautiful setting of the islands of the South Pacific.
"Life 1.0.1" is a different book. Starting life as a series of social media posts it was collected into an eBook and then a print edition produced. The quirky thought provoking headline is supported by an explanation and a story or image to support the idea. Then it is up to the reader to decide what to do.
The latest book, "Family Matters" deals with unexpected challenges faced by a multi-generational family. While it can be considered a" crime story" it is really more about family relationships.
Valverde Maclean now lives in a small village in the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland of Australia.
